| This
is a charity exercise started on 12 July and end on 17 Aug 2003 where
16,800 (sixteen thousand eight hundred) people photos are taken and
printed to paste on a huge 15.25m x 7.93m board. All these photos
are either taken physically and printed out at various locations or
submitted online via World Wide Web and later printed out. Also, all
are electronically pasted on an electronic collage board. The
16,800 photos are divided in 7 rows by 24 columns of 100 block grids.
Each
photo was digitally taken using 2 mega pixels digital camera, file
size ranges from 700kB to 1.5 MB. It was a very demanding and challenging
attempt to put the entire collage online for print & online viewing.
The file size will be very big which runs into Gigabytes and impossible
for any software program to perform. The solution is to convert
the 100 block photos to Jpeg format and it was 127kB but it was
further compressed using SmarttPapers Patent Pending SmarttPapers™
Technology to very small file which is only about 36 kB from a size
of around 150MB. A difference of about 4,000 times. Then by clicking
on the each of the picture within the 100 block photos , a picture
of further reduced size of 8 kB SmarttPapers compressed photo will
be pop-up and displayed using a special plugin in a web browser.
The
use of this breakthrough technology of SmarttPapers™ has made it possible
for people all over the world to preview this World’s Largest
Online Photo Collage
